Home Improvement Loans FAQs
-
What is the difference between a home improvement loan and a renovation mortgage?
A home improvement loan is typically used to finance renovations or repairs to a home you already own. A renovation mortgage, such as a HomeStyle® Renovation Mortgage, allows eligible borrowers to finance the purchase or refinance of a home and the cost of approved renovations with one mortgage loan.
-
What types of home improvements can be financed?
Depending on the loan program, financing may be available for projects such as kitchen and bathroom remodels, room additions, roofing, windows, HVAC systems, flooring, accessibility upgrades, and other eligible home improvements. Your Mortgage Advisor can help determine which loan best fits your project.
-
Can I finance renovations when I buy a home?
Yes. If you're purchasing a home that needs repairs or updates, a renovation mortgage may allow you to include the cost of eligible improvements in your mortgage rather than obtaining separate financing. This can simplify the process with one application, one closing, and one monthly mortgage payment.
