Online Banking Security: 3 Essential Tips

Use increased caution. Here are a few key things to think about when online:
 

1. Create a Login Only You Know. Never share your User ID or password with anyone. Make your password hard to guess by using a mix of letters, numbers and symbols - instead of birthdays or pet names - and change it regularly.
2. Register Your Browser. Browser Registration adds a security certificate to your device—cutting down on how often you need a Secure Access Code. Choose “Register this computer for later use” only on personal devices you control; avoid registering public or shared computers. 
3. Use Secure Access Codes. The first time you log in (or after clearing cookies), you’ll be asked for a one-time Secure Access Code sent via email, phone call or SMS. Enter the code to prove it’s really you, then register your device if you’d like to skip codes on future logins.
    

Tip: Your web browser likely has a tool that will save your passwords for you — and will offer suggestions for more secure passwords. So use these, and tell your browser to store the passwords for you so don’t need to keep track.

 Need a Little Extra Clarity

• What if I forget my password? Use the “Forgot Password?” link on the login screen to reset it securely - just verify via your registered email or phone.
• Can I use Online Banking on multiple devices? Yes, simply register each personal device when prompted. After clearing cookies or switching browsers, you’ll receive a new Secure Access Code.
• Why do I sometimes get a Secure Access Code even after registering my device? Codes are required after major security updates or device changes to confirm it’s really you.
